The AHJL wagons were created by welding two H hoppers together to form a larger hopper wagon suited to industrial bulk traffic. Unlike the one-off “Big John” version, the standard AHJL wagons had material removed from each end, making them slightly shorter overall. This gave the class its own distinct appearance and makes it an ideal model for recreating Whyalla coke traffic and industrial railway operations.
